Artwork presentation

Cuestionado

Artist: Lucila Ailen Silva

In this work you can see a main character and his thoughts about art. The protagonist of the work believes that art should be ordered by shades and size.

If the click is held down, you can see two eyes appear on the screen, one on the mouse and the other in the middle of its forehead. More and more eyes are created as the user moves the mouse (as long as the mouse is held down), this represents whatever the viewer imagines.

Two of these cases could be: The main character expressed his opinion and is questioned by the rest of the artists and people around him, for which he feels pressured and judged.

Or, on the other hand, the main character questioned himself, opening his mind to other ways of making art and ways of expressing himself.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The texts that were used to create the work were: BÜRGER, Peter. ([1974], 2010). “III. The avant-garde work of art”

This text talks about how the avant-garde made movements against art, thus revolutionizing their view of it in an involuntary way. The very nature of it was questioned, how the establishment of avant-garde art was accepted as art when in reality it was trying to inspire something completely different.

In my work you can see the above mentioned reflected in the thoughts of the protagonist, that is, they are replaced by something completely different, they are no longer squares ordered by size and color, but instead it is an eye, something more complex and novel. This change refers to the change in how the works were before and after the attack of the avant-garde.

the second text is: MARCHÁN FIZ, Simón. ([1974], 2012). “The collage principle and object art”

In this second text, my work was influenced by how the bourgeoisie changed the traditional for the digital when art began to be questioned again through the avant-garde.

Therefore, you can observe the change in the mentality of the main character, how the orderly and minimalist is replaced by something new and with more structure like the eye.

Another thing that helped the creation of “questioned” was the description of cubism, for example, how what they see in the work depends on each person, so I wanted to take something from that to carry out my project, to make it subjective and for each viewer to interpret it as they wish.

About other artists who influenced my work were Vera Molnár with her works Quatre-quarts (1957-2012)

In the previously mentioned art of Vera Molnár you can visualize a type of disorder, as there is a transition between the beginning and the end of the work, a transformation.

What can be related to my work is how the squares are transformed into circles and joined together into a single object, similar to how the sticks in Molnár’s work merge into a part of his work to create something different.

In the case of the artist Antonio Berni, I contribute to my project with his work Ramona and other women. (2019).

In this case, the relationship is stronger in the case of the story behind the work, I quote: “Ramona, that inhabitant of any big city in the world, who escapes the traditional roles of the society of the moment and who chooses to ‘live her life’, but also in other women.”

From my point of view, the unnamed protagonist of my work changes his mind about art, he deconstructs himself and opens up to different ways of creating art, you can see his evolution over time the more we interact with him.
