Expresarte fuera de los limites

Artist: Ignacio Ormachea

Expressing yourself outside the limits is a work that was born from the vision and posture that some have when faced with different circumstances in life, a reflection of one’s position in the face of a society that punishes or makes us feel blank.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The realization of this work arose from a concept or idea in which I wanted people to be part of it, from the beginning, complementing the work in a performative way. The idea of adequately representing a feeling true to one by artistically adapting it to the functional tools for the work.

“This concept began to be developed after reading Allan Kaprow’s text.” The Legacy of Jackson Pollock” (1958) which greatly reflects this close contact with the canvas by the author of the work and this journey far beyond painting as a technical resource. The resource of an entire experience to reach the final expressive result of the work that generates an impact. That is why, for me, this idea had to do with considering the functionality of my work, what to generate and deposit not only in it, but also in whoever sees it. From this text I was struck by a phrase at the beginning which is “Free art from all its chains” (Kaprow Allan, 1958, page 41) that helped me understand my position not only with the work to be executed but also how to reach and administer a message and have it understood by the other in a playful and dynamic way. Not only freeing me as a filmmaker, but giving freedom to the work itself.

With the text of Marshall Mcluhan (1964). “The medium is the message” I was able to understand and come up with this brief description, giving rise to its message as a whole. Realizing that it gave me the idea that the message of my work was not it as a whole, but rather what can be done with it, as if it were a means of communication. That is why the strength arises from the fact that people are not only protagonists, but also those who intervene in it. Aesthetically, some of the artists who inspired me to create the work were Vera Molnár, Berni, Freder Nake and Piet Mondrian. I tried to take what I liked about each of them to unite it not only with the slogan but with the function of the concept of my work.

With the text by Simon Marchán Fiz (1994). “The collage principle and object art” can take a journey through the different events and artistic styles of the 20th century, focusing on the representation of reality and what is represented as well as the development of creativity in relation to the material, which was one of the challenges of this practical work. Being able to balance this knowledge and ideas through this text helped me give myself the motivation to go for what I felt and be faithful to express myself freely by putting into it what I wanted.
