Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
My goal is to be able to show how people are hypnotized by the “harmless” infinite lapse of the constant drawing of mandalas.
When power groups act to dominate the masses, often censoring or imposing ideas on people through the media, trends, fanaticism or political measures, they manage to numb the individual, avoiding socio/cultural changes and continuing to have the benefit of taking advantage of them. It can happen with any measure: propaganda for enlistment for wars, being opportunistic with people’s needs, changes in discourse in the media, religious imposition, social pressure or other methods.
If we want to go for some type of social change, it is understood that it is not achieved in a calm way: there is movement, there is stress, there has to be time, willingness, decision and responsibility. This is where he points to the calm that one part of the work generates and the agitation that the other part generates.
The relationship of the artist with the world is very important to me, how we provide awakening through works and are written in history so that we do not continue to be subjected to massive manipulation for the benefits of those groups in power. The importance of the artist is in the ideological demonstration and with the constant breaking of what is established.
So what is the reality we live in? We are part of the whole, of the position we decide to be in, of the disgust, the pleasure, what we experience or choose to believe. It has always happened in the world, just as Picasso introduced elements of daily life, among them, he used the newspaper: “a ready-made element incorporated with all its ideological, material and physical load” very significant for French artists of the moment to show their displeasure with that manipulation. The newspaper was the way to carry political propaganda (not neutral) where they expressed manipulation and deception. Whoever had money had the power to manipulate information at their convenience.
In this case I would take it to the technological side since the media uses various methods of outreach. Let’s keep in mind that today the media are increasingly invasive, it is more difficult to escape the advertisement, the news or the permanent contact with other people’s opinions, thinking that we have control over it. All these small parts gradually invade your way of thinking, to the point of doubting whether the news is real or whether it really tells the true story of the events. We are in constant contact with fake news, rumors and little neutrality on the part of the news. It all depends on what “people want.” Do we choose to settle for what we are given or do we choose to move in search of the truth?
Finally, I want to clarify that it is very difficult for me to focus on a single artist when I am aware that each one contributed to these changes that achieved the development of art and society. However, in the works of Luis Benedit I was very struck by the way in which he drew the eyes with a certain direction, giving a unique expression in each work. I also had a strong curiosity about the set of lines used in the works of Charles Csuri recreating some human forms. It gave me the feeling that we were settled between those lines that say a lot but also the spaces between them, as if we were the continuity and the pauses. Those spaces that we still need to cover, that make us think that we can see beyond the form and connect with the context. On the other hand, my theoretical presentation is of a general topic related to the media and the forms of its manipulation.
In conclusion we can say that that mandala generates a hypnosis in representation of the tricks they use to align society at their convenience: the observing eye with slow movements in relation to the masses in a state of tranquility. And the other part with an increase in mobility where there is an awakening in society producing an alteration around it: the eye with greater acceleration in its gaze finding another reality, also seeing itself in the changes of colors in negative.
