Mandala Ciclico

Artist: Tobias Gorschin

This 3D generative art project explores a strict and continuous cycle of life and death. The operation is simple: the code acts as a clock that forces a random regeneration of the appears every 8 seconds.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The pattern is destroyed quickly (Decay) and then slowly rebuilt (Regeneration), creating a mandala that never stops. This emphasis on process and permanent occurrence connects with reflections on contemporary art, such as those of César Aira, where the work is valued not for its final object, but as an event factory and an active rule system. The work uses the rigidity of programming to explore fluidity, maintaining a perpetual and dynamic character.

The theoretical foundation of this work is Inke Arns’ thesis on the code as a performative speech act. The software not only describes the image, but executes real-time creation: specific commands, such as startNewCycle(), become the creative word that gives life to a new configuration. The code is the engine that manages the existence of the visual universe. “Performativity” allows you to go further, focusing on the code as a speech act.
