Disturbio de lineas
The work due to its characteristics detonates to be one of the first attempts at digital art, it creates an abstract form from different obliques that together give the illusion of being assembled creating a characteristic pattern. The technique that was pioneered was through an analog computer connected to a cathode ray oscillograph, creating oscillograms and electronic graphics, mainly in the form of photographic images of screens. These analog graphics are the predecessors of digital computer graphics.
This will be a brief description of the work (min 150 - max 200 words).
Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
For this occasion, inspired by the work of Herbert W. Franke, I developed a piece composed exclusively of lines. Through strategic arrangement, these lines generate the illusion of curvature and volume. Despite being only straight lines, their organization produces an optical effect similar to that of surfaces that deform or fold in space. This visual effect not only refers to Franke’s experiments in the 60s carried out with oscillographs and analog computers, but is also renewed with the modern use of interactive programming. I used digital tools to create a dynamic dimension that when the user moves the mouse over the canvas, it activates a disturbance in the lines, which generates the sensation of movement and even the illusion that there are new lines. This effect transforms the static image into an almost hypnotic experience, in which the viewer has a certain control over what they are seeing, making sense of it when the user activates it.
What I am most interested in highlighting is how a work that emerged in the technical context of the 60s can be reinterpreted from the logic of the 21st century. Franke was one of the first innovative artists for the time to use this technique that would later become the first concepts of digital art today with more resources and more advanced technologies.
Technically, its development involves the programming of lines controlled by random variables and coordinates linked to the movement of the cursor. This hybridization between visual art, programming and participation defines a new type of expanded work, which does not seek to represent something, but to create a sensitive and active experience.
