Bucle

Artist: Laura Prada

Loop is a generative work created through programming, in which continuous movement and visual repetition are the protagonists. The piece is composed of a spiral built from circles that are incessantly replicated, accompanied by square structures that also repeat their trajectories within other paintings, generating a sensation of inexhaustible cycles. This intentional repetition seeks to evoke the phenomenon of overthinking, “thought loops.” In the background irregular lines, wanting to break the harmony of the pattern.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

This work is inspired by two main sources: the cover of the magazine Spirale 8 published by Lars Müller in 1960 in which artists such as Herbert W. Franke and Ben F. Laposky appear and the work Distribution aléatoire by Vera Molnar. Both references offer a graphic and abstract approach that explores repetition, visual rhythm and the structured use of lines as an expressive element. Molnar’s work especially caught my attention due to the use of lines and geometric shapes. Loop is composed of repeated and modulated circles that form a Spiral, accompanied by less structured lines in the background. The use of black and white reinforces the intensity and simplicity of the idea, moving away from the decorative to focus on the content.

This work is situated in a line of self-conscious artistic production, where the visual language of lines and shapes becomes a critical tool. As Brea would say, only those practices that explore their own limits deserve to be considered art. Here, the spiral is not just a form: it is the image of a thought.

Loop Offers to represent the idea already mentioned above. Following what José Luis Brea suggests, art can be understood as a surface in which visible formations are induced that express and translate an unbalanced state of energy. From this perspective, the work does not aim to resolve, but rather to demonstrate the constant presence of overthinking and how it can condition our relationship with time.
