My work seeks to raise awareness about the growing use of facial recognition technology and privacy as a right.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

In his text “Code as a Performative Speech Act” Arns talks about how the simple act of writing and executing code becomes a form of action. Intervening the image with code works-is like a performative act, an act that is not necessarily functional or that has as its purpose an aesthetic modification, but that produces meaning, just as Arns suggests. inviting the observer to reflect on the ethical use of technology and its limits on the privacy of individuals.

Thus, my work uses code as a performative means to discuss the growing presence of facial recognition technology in our lives. Inspired by CV Dazzle patterns, a visual camouflage technique developed to interfere with facial recognition systems. inspired by World War I military camouflage called “Dazzle”, which used geometric patterns that made ships more difficult to identify. My intervention seeks to generate a reflection on the balance between technological advances, security and the protection of individual privacy.
