Brief description:
Affection invites the viewer to explore what is not understood and to address anxiety in an organic way, thereby allowing the viewer’s intervention inherently with infinite clicks.
Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
It is an interactive exploration of psoriasis through digitally generated organic shapes. The work begins with an amorphous stain with relief, the user’s intervention would allow this stain to expand throughout the Canvas without any type of parameter, generating a greater number of amorphous stains equal to or larger than the main stain, generating a spread, completely taking over the canvas. I base my work on the “Node Garden” series by artist Jared Tarbell. Programmer and artist, Tarbell’s objective is to be able to generate concrete and firm lines of code that will help the future artist-programmer to develop their work. Jared’s works are composed of organic structures based, for the most part, on the nature of the state of New Mexico, his birthplace. The work proposes to link the organic structure with the irredeemable condition of the skin understood as psoriasis: A “psychosomatic disease.” In my opinion it is one of the most common organic structures in society not only because of its externalization but also because of the emotional charge that this manifesto implies. It starts with a small welt that the more you think about it, the more it expands, completely taking over that part of the body. The work allows us to deal with the unknown or rather what is not understood in an interactive way, clicking non-stop on the Canvas until achieving pseudo-satisfaction, a deceived anxiety. Regarding Jared Tarbell, he is the perfect example of what Brea mentions about the transition from artist to producer: “There are no more “artists”, as such. There are only producers, people who produce.” Tarbell is a programmer dedicated to improving his algorithms as the resolution of the screens and hardware become more complex. He recognizes himself as “(…), one of the many participants in the emerging field of digital manufacturing at home”1. Brea would hate it since Jared confesses to using the computer as a tool. Re-affirming the rejection, Brea believes that “the territories of the synthesis image and the art of programming that were its own have revealed total impotence to contribute real findings (…)”2. Thus, Jared for Brea will be the “producer” who will produce and distribute his process.
In conclusion, there is no longer anything reproducible. Many “producers will distribute” their research and their tools to appease individuality and build the sense of collective that is so needed today. Psoriasis is a consequence of the emotional hostility that is experienced every day and is so strong that the skin needs to show it.
