A screen beats above your gaze. You can watch, or you can see what happens if you intervene. What was your first instinct? I moved the cursor and discovered the possibilities it has to offer: hundreds of works in the same second. Squares that move, are created and erased, drawn and blurred with movement. There are only you and the screen, commanded at your will. You set the time. When you get bored of creating, stop moving. The canvas cleans itself and returns to its initial state. It will wait until you want to play again.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

In this proposal, the piece is not completed without the participation of the user, who adds value by “painting” with two perpendicular lines commanded by the cursor across the screen. By rebuilding the underlying structure, the user can “paint” again as many times as they want, without expectations of reaching a specific result. To create this eraser illusion, a background of concentric squares in different gray values and opacity levels is used.

Inspired by the work of Vera Molnar, in particular in the piece “hypertransformations”, this work that can be created infinitely aims to follow the author’s philosophy: not to let the technology used for creation define the work, but rather to be another tool for creation. The reference author worked with primitive geometric shapes, especially concentric squares, and explored their qualities. It made them spin, stretch, break. His search was related to the idea of “real creative vision” (sic), a form of inspiration removed from social conventions. In “Redefinition of artistic practices s 21” (2008), Brea mentions that the value of a work no longer resides in its condition as an object as such, but in the capacity for circulation of the latent idea in it. He states: “In 21st century societies, art will not be exhibited. It will be produced and distributed, it will be disseminated.”

Perhaps the concepts of Molnar and Brea seem antagonistic, but one can be the prelude to the other. Taking creativity outside of established social norms can awaken a new idea in a person. If that same idea then spreads within society, that person - and all those who contribute to the circulation of that idea - will be carrying out an artistic practice.

If this work has an objective, it is to not be an inert square hanging on a wall. On the contrary, it invites it to be molded, to be modified; that can be criticized, to be expanded. May a part of her remain alive in those who knew her.
