Artwork presentation

Clinamen

Artist: Juan Bautista Giménez

Work made with simple lines, organized in a harmonious way to generate visual effects similar to a star that “comes and goes”. It uses opacity and image refresh to generate traces and equations with sine and cosine to imitate a spirograph.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

With simple words we seek to capture the concept raised by José Luis Brea in his text “Brief (and disordered) antiglossary - or dictionary of topics - on electronic art” of the speed with which the definitions and values for electronic art, new-media art, screen art, media art, multimedia, among others, change due to the current times of constant technological discoveries; and the impact that this generates by not allowing us to adhere to a concept or “model to follow” when it becomes obsolete in the face of a new one:

“There is no proper aesthetic, there is no art that is forever, a perennial art. Only images, videos, sounds, expressions that try to be unique.

I am not unique, neither is the work. A star that forms momentarily, you can see it, and then dies to give rise to another.

That’s how people are, that’s how life is; we are passing through

Like sadness, joy, crying, laughter and the seasons.

What is today, tomorrow ceases to be, is transformed but I hope it is never lost. A silly longing. Trying to decipher what I feel and then capture it, it fades before I can embody it.

Like this, after seeing it, you’re probably going to forget it.

And among so much amnesia, the artist (or attempt to) hopes to relieve the soul with the remnants of his thoughts.”

Within the poem you can recognize what Brea mentions in the text “Redefinition of artistic practices (S.21)” on the theme of there currently being no artists or authors, only producers and ideas that recirculate among themselves without being anything new. Losing meaning.

Many feel that, and hope, with the intention in their work, with a “symbolic production” to give value to what they do.
