Pre-positions
This work is composed of a main square that encompasses several lines. Other lines are superimposed on the background lines, which form small squares of different sizes. The aim is for the user to interact so that they can appreciate the inversion of the colors of the lines, which changes the climate of the work.
Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
This work is inspired by the artists Vera Molnár and Herbert W. Franke, both pioneers of computational art (or as Brea calls it “computer art”, in her book “Brief (and messy) antiglossary – or dictionary of topics – on electronic art” in The postmedia era). I considered Molnár’s idea that each work is unique and different just by placing geometric figures and composing them in different ways. In the work it is demonstrated with the appearance of squares and lines at different distances between them, with different gray scales and with the combination of static lines, moving lines and user interaction.
In addition, there is also an overlap of lines that form small squares, which was not intentional. This led me to experiment with these overlaps in the work, and reflect on what Franke expressed: “Voyages of discovery, explorations of unknown terrain, have always meant much more than the acquisition of knowledge.” I took as a reference his work Grafik I, in which the superposition of lines produces other shapes.
Also take as a reference to reflect on the work what Brea expresses: “The transformation of new societies places immaterial work, the production of meaning and affectivity, intellectual and passionate work at the foreground.” When the user interacts with the work, they are being involved so that they can have their own experience, seeking some response, even if it is minimal. I consider it important to just try, since it is the only way to obtain any results. This result can even be surprising, as it was in my case with the appearance of new forms.
