Lux intus

Artist: Abril Vivas

Wherever the light is, it is disturbing to assume that it is solely a human phenomenon and not a situation. There is something about light that does not belong to us. That’s why it escapes, as I try to portray, since it’s not ours. The work consists of the unity of light as a concept, and its escape route from the positioning of the eye and our susceptibility. The look may be just light, but the light is not just a look. Without the gaze, is there light? If the tree breaks, but no one is there, can you hear it? A work that encourages you to delve into perception, a three-dimensional spatial perception with dynamics of exchange, different planes; therefore different lux intus (the light that goes inside).

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

Being able to guide the lights using the tools provided allows the idea raised in the previous development to be expressed in the work. The evolution of the layers of perception occurred to me thanks to Arns, and the performative and search I had invites me to reflect on using software as materiality and artistic medium. At Lux Intus there is a direct walk to the core of everything that passes through us. The layers that are below the matter. Those that are inside each thought, each object or even the layers that are behind each screen, image, or what is behind a circuit of cables or an eye or deep emotions and polarities. The lighting result depends on where the point of view is positioned. Use the mouse to be able to position the user immersively in the exploration of the point of view that most interests them. There are points of view located from luminous places where we see darkness and we can place ourselves in dark points where the view will be light and iridescence and abstract diffusions. To achieve this perspective within the different strata, which can be like luminous skins, place spheres in the space with materials that reflect the established lights, creating a slight animation with the movement of the mouse on the screen; an ambient light, which is total, a point light and a final directional light. This last light is designed to be activated when writing and modifying the code (as a performative act) to change the visual dynamism and recreate images of maximum luminosity. Is the code also a performative record? The aesthetics of this work referred me to an artist that I can take as a reference: @m.suksu, who articulates with color and light different species of “clouds” and “limits”, and who challenges me when exploring the importance of how the eye speaks since in his drawings he incorporates eyes and other forms that humanly characterize the characters. Lux Intus is an echo of introspection, where the spheres not only reflect the exterior light, but also illuminate the interior. Each flash, each turn of the sphere, is an expression of constant search, a path of self-discovery that invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the very process of self-knowledge and creation.
