Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
In this, some primitive figures and traditional illustrations converted to digital were used.
In my previous work, I used Brea’s text “Redefinition of Artistic Practices” to relate it, since he said that every work of art is a “product.”
“3. There are no “works of art”. There are work and practices that we can call artistic. They have to do with significant, affective and cultural production, and they play specific roles in relation to the subjects of experience. But they do not have to do with the production of particular objects, but only with the public impulse of certain circulatory effects: meaning effects, symbolic effects, intensive, affective effects…”.
In that previous text I disagreed with that belief, and currently I continue against it. When reading César Aira’s text “On Contemporary Art” I saw that he put into better words what I wanted to convey.
Works of art can be a product, but they can exist separately. On the one hand, calling works of art are those pieces that are made to satisfy oneself, to create with few limitations or to the extent of our abilities without any fear, just for the sake of doing something that one believes is sufficient or “perfect.” And on the other hand, we will call these products “crafts”, which would be those pieces made with the satisfaction of others in mind, with limitations and/or specific instructions to attract and please a foreign person, whether public, buyer, etc.
I compare this with my first work with the current one that I am presenting.
In the first work or work I was limited to a palette of gray tones and used specific artists as references. I felt it like a product/craft, I didn’t let my “imagination” flow due to the pressure of pleasing someone else.
But with this work I feel that freedom, creating a project with elements that do give me that impulse to create without pressure. Use things that I like as inspiration and colors/shapes that give me that pleasure.
