Simbiosis Binaria

Artist: Pilar Fargas

In my work, titled “Binary Symbiosis”, I seek to fuse generative art, science and programming to create a visual experience that explores the fundamental dimensions and elements of nature. This project, built through code in p5.js, delves into the duality of existence, highlighting the harmonious coexistence of apparent opposites. Creating a space of above, below and the 4 elements as the 4 dimensions for the human eye (width, height, depth and time), I try to reflect on the perfect meeting between order and chaos. As Philip Galanter comments in his text, the 21st century gave way to the fusion of what we thought was alien, art-science-humanities, through the study of complexity and complex systems. Where text-author-audience are also intertwined in this generative network, which seems infinite.

These audiovisual representations of nature form the basis of the work, serving as a canvas for generative creation. The work stands as an exploration of the dimensions, the binary dimension of light and darkness, reality and the virtual, as Diana Tylor mentions in her text, of performance. The representation of reality to the virtual field has been combined and created new paradigms, where we live between the universe and the metaverse. Creating a hybrid world.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The background of the composition is made up of two videos: the sky and the grass. These audiovisual representations of nature form the basis of the work, serving as a canvas for generative creation. The sky, with its celestial hues, contrasts with the serenity of the grass, creating a setting that highlights the duality present in nature.

Against this backdrop, four fundamental elements float and intertwine: fire, air, water and earth. These elements, represented by video-textured three-dimensional shapes, become ever-changing digital sculptures. The interaction of these moving elements evokes the moldability and fluidity inherent in nature.

When entering the user interaction, through the click of the mouse, we find a new space. The hidden space for us. A distant, mysterious, and minimalist space. The outer space that contains the nature that surrounds us.
