Technological extension

Artist: Avalos Guadalupe

Nowadays we all agree that technology takes up a large part of our lives, if not all of it. Without it it is almost impossible to remain at the foot of society. And this work tries to reflect that extension of each contemporary human being, who subsists with technology, sometimes without deciding. That side of this new world that we decided to create and ended up forcing us to be part of it, with its consequences included. The play consists of 2 key scenarios, we will call them “confinement” and “loop”.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

In the first instance, the inspiration for this work comes from Diana Taylor’s sayings about the “Technological Body.” She uses this concept to refer to how technology has become intrinsic in the representation and perception of our bodies. “The technology that is replaced and replaced by the human body, at the same time, becomes the way of imagining these new, radically altered bodies.”

It explains to us how their vision has been distorted to seek the consumption of products and services, in turn showing us unattainable and often unrealistic ideals of beauty.

Within this work, we seek to reflect the feeling that these inaccurate standards generate individually. What many may take as something repetitive or routine, for others is the reason why in order to belong, these sayings on the internet must be given importance.

First part, “Encierro”. It consists of a loop in which the viewer decides whether to enter the internet universe by interacting with the work. When deciding to enter, it is where he finds himself trapped in a hallway with the intention of visualizing what being there generates. Trying to interpret the dead end path that social networks or digital life itself end up producing for us. The more involved you are, the more than one comment like that you will have ever heard.

Second part, “loop”. After viewing the second part, the viewer is given the possibility of wanting to escape from there, which subsequently takes us to the appearance of a world which has orbits circling around it non-stop. At this moment, we are in the presence of the world of the Internet, having its users as an extension of itself in constant movement, without brakes. We are those orbits. We are those users who are forced to understand and follow the accelerated and inhuman pace of the Internet. There is no escape once entered. No human being can be able to follow the technological current today and this work seeks to provide a reminder of what we have decided to introduce into our lives, without knowing it.
