Artwork presentation

Hoja en blanco

Artist: Sofía N. Abalos Miguez

This work seeks to combine both the visual and the sound.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

This work is an invitation to dialogue between the blank canvas, the artist, the spectators and the expressive possibilities. Integrating the action of the spectators as part of the performance, diluting the border of the virtual-material, in an active position, in which, following the ideas of César Aira on contemporary art, the initial sheet becomes an “object of desire, a world to be built”, reflecting the visual, corporal, intellectual and musical effectiveness of the unexpressed.

As TAYLOR, Diana expresses about the new uses of performance, here the public becomes an “active and redefining collaborator”, by choosing between the 12 colors, each accompanied by a piano note, the spectators paint and compose a unique expressive experience.

As I find myself in front of this same canvas, it suggests a shared intimacy between the spectators and the artist, generating a space in which “form and content merge into a unique experience.”

By using musical components in the work, a multisensory, non-traditional experience is encouraged.

AIRA, César explores the differences between the visual arts and other creative languages, noting that in Contemporary Art there is an openness to multiple interpretations and approaches, which encourages diversity of expression.

Faced with the anxiety that a blank page could produce (What is there in me to express? What do the spectators want? What does the logic of the market ask for?, etc.), the creator takes refuge in the spectators and dialectically, the spectators identify and take refuge in the illusory authorship of the other, in order to create the work between them.
