Desarrendo
DEVELOPMENT
In order to emphasize the difference between order and disorder and generate tensions in the orthogonal structure, Vera Molnar designs a pattern of concentric squares that breaks randomly. It appears as if the squares are subject to a vibrating force. The title implies a French pun between the words “désordres” (disorder) and “des ordres” (some orders), suggesting that there may be some hidden reason behind the surface disorder. In my work we can see that we take the concept of vibrating force that Molnar wanted to generate and take it to a more literal plane with the pattern of already animated squares “vibrating” in unison. The title “Disarrendo” is an anagram of the word disorder, present in the previous idea of the artist’s title. It also has a more hidden meaning related to the work and the meaning of the word, since desarrendo is a conjugation of the verb desarrendar, which means, remove the reins. In the work, removing the reins can be seen since I used the random method, belonging to the p5 JavaScript library, which takes the reins (the management) away from me and leaves the computer free to generate a semi-random value, thus we classify this work in the concept of New-Media Art. The new supports, both for creation and reproduction, act on what we consider art in this century, as Valery predicted in a way. Paul, it is no longer the same to create a work on a canvas and exhibit it on that canvas for a group of people. Massivity and tools came to change the concepts of art already instilled. Language not only has a descriptive function, but it also has a performative function, it can be used to execute acts, and this is how computer language works to create generative art. When speech acts are not successful, they are failed performative expressions. Because speech codes are not always effective, in programming if you make a mistake in a simple comma or period, the code can no longer execute correctly. Now, when it is successful, not only is the action carried out but a chain of effects and consequences is produced. Inke Arns’s fundamental intention is to legitimize new ways of artistic expression through the use of code.
