The Night Sun
“The Night Sun” is an artistic project that is inspired by a work by Herbert W. Franke, specifically in his creation titled “Grafik I” released in 1956. Generative programming and graphics are used to create a unique visual aesthetic in which the user interacts with the image. The lines carefully intertwine and crisscross as if forming a network, creating a sensation that the small sun in the center He is being captivated by them, as if they were trying to capture him.
Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
Starting with the technical part, I took Franke, Herbert as a source of inspiration, recognized for his contribution to the field of digital art and mathematics, my project is established in algorithmic art techniques. Precise rules and parameters were dictated, among them curved lines and a gray scale were used, which allow creating various shapes by moving the mouse and achromatic variations.
Seeing my work from a more conceptual vision and relating it to Heinich Natalie, makes me think that the traditional notion of a work of art as a physical and tangible object has become increasingly insufficient. Generative images are an example of how the creative process and the participation of the viewer are fundamental to the creation of the work, normally in our case a physical place itself is not used, but the canvas is our screen and our tools are coding. The work of art is no longer limited to a material object, but can be manifested through actions, depending on what decisions the viewer makes, different displacements will be discovered, creating a new concept in each process or even in the interaction, which can generate a feeling of fluidity and constant change in real time.
As Brea, José Luis said, both art and dreams are means where emotions, thoughts and internal energies that may be in a state of imbalance or decompensation are channeled and communicated. Through programming I tried to explore and translate concepts such as tension, symmetry and imbalance, awakening gazes and imagination about what is being seen, giving the space to ask: What is located in the center? What does it represent?
And to conclude, I would like to highlight some aesthetic aspects personally selected for this work. Arches were used with the purpose of representing the sun, a main character that transmits a feeling of mystery, and who experiences the tension of wanting to be reached and absorbed by the luminous lines present. These lines can be interpreted in different ways: as a rough sea that seeks to consume the character, or as the beak of a bird that seeks to devour the night sun.
