La noche

Artist: Sofía N. Abalos Miguez

This work is inspired by “The Field” by author Grace C. Hertlein.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The night. What is the night? Literally, it is the time when there is no sunlight. But sentimentally, what does it represent?

The night, for people destined for taciturn thoughts, is darkness, anguish, emptiness and uncertainty.

Where one does not have the ability to see everything and does not know what will be found there. This uncertainty is one of the greatest fears of human beings and, that is what we feel about our future. This terror is so immense and deep that we need to extinguish it with something, appease our beast.

In today’s society, we were taught that consumption is necessary for this. That if we have different material goods, we will no longer feel that pressure in the chest that does not allow us to breathe.

But the problem with this is that, like any beast, it always wants more. As pleasure becomes more and more ephemeral, stronger experiences are necessary to feel that brief satisfaction.

Because of this, art, among other things, had to be adapted to be consumed, thus making the user a participant in it.

Therefore, through this generative image, the user’s interaction is sought by deciding the lunar phases or even illuminating the panorama with the sun, thus discovering that this terrifying scenario was only in their head. If you look carefully, you are not alone and you don’t even find that emptiness.
