Artwork presentation

Punto Azul

Artist: Virginia Wulf

In the work, you can see the representation of the creation of Adam, where God and Adam are shown touching hands with the Earth in the center, in turn you can explore and move around. This idea is reflected in how works of art, such as paintings and statues, waited patiently to be contemplated, like sedentary ghosts that only speak when spoken to. The Earth rotates in its own time as the days pass, and the work revolves around it. If you do not understand the story of Adam’s creation, you cannot understand why the Earth is in the center or what the purpose of the work is. The placement of the Earth at the center represents geocentric thinking and reflects the idea that we place ourselves at the center, with works of art revolving around us. The idea that I go back to doing this work is when I experienced the idea of living in a place without so many buildings being able to observe the stars and the moon. When I began to live in the capital, I lost this notion and for a time the moon ceased to exist.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The work “Blue Dot” uses 3D modeling techniques to create a three-dimensional representation of the solar system within a sphere. This technical choice allows us to achieve a striking and detailed visual representation, where astronomical elements are intertwined with the divine and human figure of God and Adam. The use of digital modeling and rendering tools provides a high level of realism and contributes to the aesthetic experience of the work. In the work, you can see the representation of the creation of Adam, where God and Adam are shown touching hands with the Earth in the center. This painting, done by Michelangelo around 1511 and located in the vault of the Sistine Chapel, coexisted with the widespread belief at the time that the Earth was the center of the universe. The Earth rotates in its own time as the days pass, and the work revolves around it. If you do not understand the story of Adam’s creation, you cannot understand why the Earth is in the center or what the purpose of the work is. This idea is reflected in how works of art, such as paintings and statues, waited patiently to be contemplated, like sedentary ghosts that only speak when spoken to. The location of the Earth in the center of the work has two fundamental reasons. Firstly, it is based on the historical context of the Renaissance, where the Earth was believed to occupy the center of the solar system. This symbolic representation invites us as viewers to reflect on our own position in the universe and how we place ourselves at the center of our experience. The choice of the painting of God and Adam as the image that fills the sphere also has symbolic meaning. This divine representation since the works being ghosts do not have time, they do not expire. The planets within the solar system are the elements that count the days, they give us, the viewer, time.
