El cubo magico
The work The Magic Cube tries to resemble a room where when you walk through it you will find important warnings about its use, and the choice between two different psychedelic works within the same one. They are located in different boxes at the ends of the room and you can see them in depth by clicking the left or right mouse depending on your interests.
Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development This work that resembles psychedelic environments started from a premise. The greatest interest of these environments was the extension or transformation of consciousness, the liberation of the senses of any person who is observing it. All these sensations occur from this non-rational creation that will cause pleasant and pleasant illusions. I found it interesting to give the user the power to make the decision to go through the work, since the first space represented as if it were a room introduces the viewer to an experience closer to reality and allows them the choice of whether or not to enter the paintings that contain sounds and moving 3D images (on the Y, X and Z axis, changing their frameCount for greater or lesser movement). These paintings are composed of manipulative and auditory visuals which will introduce the viewer completely, that is, not in front of, but inside the work.
From my point of view, the importance in the decision of whether or not to consume this type of environment is in the warnings that the author makes about them: “This irruption and bombardment of asyntactic stimuli becomes with some ease the capacity of consciousness in its impossibility of processing the information received and this hinders distancing and criticism, leading, instead, to the exhaustion and erosion of one’s perception.” (Marchan Fiz, 1994, p. 179). In my opinion, I believe that as the author warns, these premises are true, but even so, I think we all agree that the point of consumption, especially everything that has both negative and positive aspects, is delimited by its excesses. That is to say, being able to see this work at this moment will not cause what the author claims, but if we truly consume this type of environment, continuously over time, I would agree with him.
Concluding my writing, I want to highlight a part of the aforementioned text that is the basis for why I chose to create this psychedelic environment within p5js. Although this work is not exhibited in traditional places such as a gallery or architectural space, it still has the components of an installation, since it does not necessarily have to take place in conventional exhibition places. In any of the cases where these occur, the important point is that it must be a space that surrounds man through which he can move, develop and affect the sensory activity of the viewer with a complex intensity.
