Ecocidio-Porteno
Trees are stripped of their foliage through repeated pruning, thousands of trees are pruned and removed per year, green spaces are covered with cement and plastic, public land is alienated for the benefits of a few, the entire city is demolished and cemented, eliminating apple lungs and absorbent soil. All this violating Law No. 3263 URBAN PUBLIC TREES.
Once this artistic work has begun, we see a photograph of the Obelisk moving away from the screen, giving rise to four cylinders, each one distributed in each quadrant of the screen, rotating on its vertical axis. It is worth clarifying that the background is the color yellow. On the surface of these figures we can see photographic evidence of what a crime against nature really is. Regarding the sound, it corresponds to a chainsaw and at times some people’s voices can be heard. To interact with this work, move your mouse over the image or press the v key.
This work has the purpose or objective of making visible the destruction of green spaces caused by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (GBCA) together with the pruning and park maintenance contractor companies.
Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
Ecocidio Porteño expresses a way of seeing the city where I live. I show how I see this process of modification of common spaces in the City of Buenos Aires (CABA). I use images of the pruning work carried out by companies hired by the GCBA to highlight, show and point out the ecocide that is being carried out in this city. In this way I try to raise awareness in the people who see this work.
The aesthetics may not be the best, but being simple could catch the attention of someone who sees it. The sound of a chainsaw generates some discomfort that can be similar to walking at midday on a sidewalk without shade in summer.
Regarding the code with which I developed this work, which is relatively simple, but fulfills its purpose, as I said before, it highlights the ecocide that is being carried out in this city.
According to the text by Inke Arns, “Code as a performative speech act. My work is framed in generative art since it describes processes defined by rules, processes that are automated to a certain extent by the use of a PC, or through mathematical instructions.”
It is a work of repudiation and pointing out that seeks, as Diana Taylor explains in the text Artivistas, to expose, to reveal in public that the Law is being violated and that if there is no justice, at least there is social condemnation and that it is pointed out that the pruning and felling of trees is wrong.
