Artwork presentation

Solitario

Artist: Juan Pedro Llamosas

“Solitario” presents the feeling of feeling isolated, alone, aimless in an internal void, where you feel small through the selected music, the black background and the constant rain.

The viewer can participate in the work by moving the mouse; if they approach the circle located in the center, it will light up, symbolizing that it is NOT one of all the others. Without illuminating it, it is as if we do not know it and it is just one of the many others.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The work expresses the feeling of feeling alone, as if the person did not exist. It is up to the viewer to decide to move the mouse to see or not see the circle. As well as what is seen within the work, and what is not seen within the work. “The fact of having the accompaniment of a story allows us to add a lot of information, even things that are not in the exhibition.” Just as it says in César Aira’s text “On contemporary art”

But what has been done continues and will continue to be the necessary support for what has not been done, which is lodged in its material like a secret story. Literature could be the bridge between what is done and what is not done, which establish a mysterious and suggestive asymmetry between them.

What is not shown in the work is the history of the work. On the one hand, there is a second version of “Solitaire” that contains a solid background. However, that is not the final version since that background made us lose a lot of the information that we wanted to show and the emptiness that we want to manifest. On the other hand, when selecting the song, the owner of Night Mode Records, Tucker Boner, was consulted via Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/jericho) to confirm the use of music from his position in the work. Furthermore, the choice of music is not without reason. The justification for the song “Atrea” by Heimanu is because it talks to us about self-improvement and that way in which everyone pulls you down but you still continue. Even if everyone is against you and you are alone, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. That’s how “Solitaire” begins. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

In this way, Claire Bishop tells us that, in her text “The art of installation and its heritage”, the inclusion of sound and the possibility of interaction will give us a very different experience. When we come into contact with a work of art, it impacts, on the one hand, our senses, and on the other hand, our reason, that is, the aesthetic experience and, on the other, the intellectual experience.
