Artwork presentation

ciudatexx

Artist: Carla María Barrera Aybar

This multimedia artistic production simulates a three-dimensional “collage” of photographs taken by me of city buildings arranged in prisms of different sizes. For this work I was inspired by some works by visual artists such as Letícia Lampert or Beomsik Won (photographers and collagists) and on the other hand, by the visual stimulus of living in a city with a diversity of textures and movements. Ciudatexx allows you to appreciate this surreal architectural puzzle from different perspectives by pressing and moving the mouse over the animation or letting its rotation flow.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The Ciudatexx process led me to play with my “fanaticism” for photography and architecture. Taking photographs and then breaking them down, taking them out of their context to rearrange a space with different compositions and disorder looks to find new scenarios.

MARCHÁN FIZ in “Principles of Ollage and Objectual Art” takes a historical tour of the avant-garde and the appearance of collage, assemblage and different techniques related to the superimposition of diverse objects such as photographs, pictorial objects and simple objects of daily life.

…The «new realism» considers the aesthetic transformation of the object as something decisive, takes him out of his contingency through election, attributing to this act a potential expressiveness and a «elevation-declaration» to work of art. The two determining moments are: extraction of the usual context through the elective gesture and the manner of presentation, which in turn implies a recognition of the specific expansion of the everyday object and its virtuality polyvalent semantics, in itself and in the framework of its sociological reality. …

My intention is to highlight the various textures that the juxtaposition of buildings with their architecture offers us. The work maintains gray colors because I believe that cloudy days allow us to better appreciate the details, contrasts and shapes in a more poetic or melancholic way.

Ciudatexx does not seek to represent an ordinary city but rather to get away from that formalism and deconstruct the architecture, inviting the viewer to a surreal city, a city that can see it from its own perspective, appreciating the differences. It is an “open” work and I think that for each viewer it can mean something: a happy day, a sad day, a walk, a journey or the precise moment in which we stop and look around us and allow ourselves to appreciate.
