Reinventarse
The work Reinventarse is a work that must be observed with patience, it is composed of a series of squares of greater and lesser amplitude and with different shades of gray, which over time tell a small story of how the work fades and sinks, and then goes through several stages of improvement from which the work emerges stronger and brighter.
Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
To begin, it should be noted that this work was inspired by the works of Vera Molnar, a multimedia artist who works mainly with geometric figures and particularly with squares.
Second, looking for how to define Reinventarse, it emerged in a text by Burguer, called “The avant-garde work of art” (1974), in which he defines that the work of art is established as a unit of generalities and particularities and based on this it is possible to define Reinventarse as an organic work of art given that each part of it, each square or line of squares is incomprehensible on its own, however, as Burguer says, through the connection between each part and the whole, based on its whole, and in the case of Reinventarse, with its different appearances, disappearances and meticulously calculated times, allow us to understand this work as a whole, where each part helps to define the meaning produced by it, or rather the variety of possible meanings produced by it.
And last but not least, Nathalie Heinich, in “the work beyond the object” (2014), talks about how the work itself can go beyond the object used for it, given that many people decide to define a work only by the discursive devices that give it meaning and condition (for example on the walls of a museum, where anything hanging on them could be considered a work of art, but not necessarily outside them). The same thing happens in a work like Reinventarse, which could be considered a work only because it was created in a JavaScript library for creative programming such as p5.js, but outside of this it could be considered only as a set of squares with irregular appearances and disappearances. Reinventarse could have simply accepted this and settled for being a work thanks to p5.js, however what this work sought is to become a work not only because of its format and place of creation, but also for the story told in it and the different effects of meaning produced by this story, inviting through its speech to a deeper interpretation and reflection than a simple set of squares could show at first glance.
