LA VIDA ES UN CIRCULO

Artist: Sol Puig

When I saw the work of Vera Molnár, a pioneering artist in computer and algorithmic art, the phrase “Life is a circle” came to my mind and based on it I wanted to create a work that allows the user to see and understand that life does not go in a straight line.

Everything in nature is related to cycles, there are lunar, tidal, mating, birth and death cycles. There are times when you go from having a lot of money to having nothing, from being in a relationship to being single, from being friends with someone to completely ignoring that person, or from having a big house to living in a small apartment. All these changes, whether good or bad, transcend us and mobilize us, causing the course of our life to change completely.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The work is about a circle that is drawn over and over again, when the user moves the mouse across the entire plane. Additionally, through mapping on the X axis, these circles change color in a gradient of different shades of gray between black and white.

“It can be said that contemporary art has essentially become an art of “telling”: an art of narration, or even legend, an art of commentary and interpretation…” says Heinich in “The Work Beyond the Object.” And I think that my work is about that, when you look at it you can see a lot of circles in white, gray and black, but at the same time it has a deeper and more reflective analysis.

At the same time, this work is itself carried out by the user. Generative art goes beyond a canvas on which the artist expresses his artistic idea, it is an art in which whoever looks at it can participate, as José Luis Brea says “In 21st century societies, art will not be exhibited. It will be produced and distributed, it will be disseminated.”
