Artwork presentation

artefacto

Artist: silvina lord

The work is about an operator who creates an allegory for avant-garde movements. The route advances and creates new paths, breaking the previous ones.

Below is what has passed, the history that is not erased, that precedes a new movement.

I was inspired, among others, by Peter Burger’s text on the avant-garde work of art and I quote: “The recovery of the avant-garde intentions and the means of the avant-garde itself can no longer, in a different context, once again achieve the restricted effect of the historical avant-garde.”

But as is known, what lies ahead eludes us.

Unknown paths, discomfort, formation of new voices, new knowledge, also constitute the body of this work.

It is a slow work, it has no immediacy.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

The work is decided on the concept of montage, of a treatment of the material separating its parts from the context. This series of algorithms thus fragmented were poured onto the canvas, until they found their place and made sense. A sense worked in the manner of the executions of surrealist automatism, where the creation method suppresses conscious control, allowing the unconscious mind to have great control. Constituting an operation, an artifice.

The circular and contrasting mode, together with a continuous and slow movement, was decisive in the choice.

The shape it is taking, “round”, as the classic work is also called, seemed like a funny contradiction to me.

Linking to the text by Jose Luis Brea, in the form of production, on which this work is also based, I quote “For more than one reason we should compare the work of art to that of dreams: it is a production that induces surface formations that express, that approximately translate, an unbalanced state of energies. What is essential in them is not the form or appearance that they acquire at a given moment: but the field of intensities - that is, the differential of potentials - in which they are they effect.”

The leading artists were Vera Molnar and Ben F. Laposky.

To finish, it was an experience of code like any other materiality.
