Mente
There are times when our minds are a mess, a chaos. At that moment, we do not see clearly and we become blinded by problems, ideas, work, pending tasks, evaluations, etc. We completely hide our feelings and only worry about what is going to happen. I believe that there are situations in which we need to take time and think. “These problems and ideas that are inside me all the time, do they really matter right now?” This is what “Mind” wants to represent.
Each of these threads symbolize the problems and ideas that each one carries. When we fill ourselves with these, we only focus on the problems and not the solutions. When we right click, problems begin to spin in our heads. They won’t go away, but we take time to relax and listen to our hearts.
Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
The concept, the idea of my work is that, if we are focused on problems, we try to put them aside and listen to our hearts. When I saw the work “Wire Ball” by Charles Csuri, the first thing I thought was: “FUAAA. It looks like a ball of threads”, I didn’t know the name of the work until then. “It seems like a lot of problems and ideas from a busy person. It could easily be the mind of a person who works, studies and takes care of his family.” I don’t know what was going through Csuri’s head when he made his work, but I understood that. Which caught my attention enough to inspire me and be able to do a work on my own. Heinich tells us in the text “The work beyond the object” is that the concept of the work IS the work, and my work is to show the mind of someone who is busy most of his time, who needs time to listen to his heart.
Nathalie also comments:
It is true that some object remains from these ideas, exposed or that can be exposed; But these objects do not have to be made or signed by the artist to move in the art world, while they do need to be accompanied by explanations, statements or instructions from him.
The butterfly is a clear example of what Nathalie tells us in this sentence. I remember someone telling me that their heart felt like a butterfly. That seemed so magical and surprising to me that I kept that idea to represent it. There doesn’t necessarily have to be a heart to symbolize a heart, and this butterfly that symbolizes the heart is accompanied by heartbeats. To what the text states:
[…] but it can manifest itself in a choice or an intention, “without which the substance of the work could not be clearly understood.”
Likewise, the butterfly was thought to generate meanings that impact us emotionally, because it symbolizes the heart related to people’s feelings. To which in José Luis Brea’s text “Redefinition of artistic practices (s. 21)” he tells us:
There are no “works of art.” There is work and practices that we can call artistic. They have to do with significant, affective and cultural production, and play specific roles in relation to the subjects of experience.
