Vera molar mas Michael Noll

Artist: Jazmin Alanis Pacheco

This work aims to combine parts of Vera Molar’s work “Parler a Loeil” with A. Michaell Noll “Computer Generated”. For this, the center part of the work by the French artist and the hypercubes by the American engineer were used. This work can be modified with the intervention of the user in addition to moving one of the hypercubes with a click.

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

This Project aims to merge two works and place interactions for the user to intervene, in addition to a movement in the fusion. In this last part they are a square, they move when clicking and if the user wants to see what it was like before the merger, they will use the arrows to see: left and right to see one (left for a color and right to see the inverted colors) and up and down to see the other (up to see a color and down to see it inverted).

At first I was only going to use a work by Vera Molar, but when I finished it I was not convinced by the final result and after thinking about what to modify, it occurred to me to merge the chosen image with another and make the arrows show how they were before the fusion. After watching a lot of works I ended up choosing an animated one by A. Michael Noll (I only took a part of the animation) and incorporated it into the project.

The aforementioned can be related to Brea who mentions “The true tool through which everything we call art in the 20th century has been produced is called: immanent self-criticism. Only those languages, or domains of significant production, in which a critical exploration of its own limits - they contribute productions that we should legitimately consider “art”.” (3pdf) This is linked since I criticized myself when I finished the project and when I made the subsequent changes to finish the work, Brea also mentions “There are no <works of art>. There are work and practices that we can call artistic.” (1pdf) When I finished the work for the first time it was an artistic practice since I changed it once it was finished and once I no longer made changes it was an artistic work.
