Resignificación, tiempo, espacio y extensiones

Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development

In the conquest of ubiquity Paul Valery tells us that, like light and water services, the visual and sound would reach our homes without the slightest effort, that was already a reality in the midst of the visual culture in which we live, but during the pandemic, virtuality even further lightened the pace that we used to manage. It is very interesting when the author says: “There are bad days; there are very lonely people, and there is no shortage of those whom age or helplessness locks up within themselves, who already know themselves well. Here are those empty and sad moments and those beings destined to yawn and taciturn thoughts are now masters of adorning their leisure or infusing it with passion” (Valery, 1928, Page 133), music and content platforms for Streaming was an important part of our leisure and of bringing joy to moments of many uncertainties. In this aspect, the dimension of the arts and its place in our lives grows more and more, reaching our homes and becoming in some way our home.

In his text the Medium is the message, Marshall Mcluhan tells us that “it can be perceived that our human senses, of which the media are extensions, are also fixed costs for our personal energies and that, in addition, they shape our consciousness and experiences” (Mcluhan, 1964, page 42) the news, the daily numbers and everything that reaches us modifies our experiences, moods, positively or negatively.

This is why my sketch is a house and a simple drawing made with primitive shapes, I used several rectangles, triangles and ellipses, created variables for the different shades of the gray scale, so that the change of day and night can be noticed, I also used a for structure to draw the stars. I also wanted to play with the idea of ​​extensions, that’s why I used an (if) condition so that when the mouse clicks the house shows its extensions. In conclusion, personally, I think that during the last year, the spaces I went to were all modified, the times were changed, the hours have different uses and I believe that the media are clearly our extensions, this accounts for the global changes, the differences between our generation and previous ones, but I think something very positive is that art is something closer to us every day, music, cinema, the visual arts are everywhere, in all our extensions and that seems incredible to me.
