CONFIGURACIÓN
In this work a first figure appears that represents the work of an artist. Then that figure is completed. This represents a work that becomes enriched as it reaches a certain mass and interpretations. This figure in configuration is also accompanied by a changing background which refers to the passage of time and how people in society have different interpretations or opinions regarding art, or not to generalize so much, a work.
Technical, aesthetic and conceptual development
In this canvas, some very basic functions of the p5js editor are used. By declaring variables and using the while() function, I was able to create a piece that regenerates its background color gradually. Moving on to the aesthetic side, I found it pleasant to work on the representation of non-representative visual elements and provide written support to complement. With a figure that is being completed, I wanted to represent the feeling of being filled or enriched.
Heinich’s text “The work beyond the object” discusses concepts from which I was inspired to create this canvas. One of them is that of contemporary art converted into an “art of telling.” On the other hand, it is also proposed that a work of art is not based only on its object itself, that is, whatever its support, it has a certain explanation, a certain idea or a certain objective behind it. The object of a work is part of its total configuration, but this is not reduced only to its materiality, but is enriched by imitations, interpretations, comments or criticisms, whether constructive or not. This is precisely what I wanted to represent, a half-circle figure that is gradually filling up or, as I mentioned before, which seems to me to be the correct word and forgive my redundancy, it becomes enriched as it enters in some way into its audience.
Even so, I think it is important to highlight that by using the concept of completion I do not want to detract from the value of the work itself, but quite the opposite. I think it is a kind of development or enhancement of it. Finally, and linking to this piece and the written development, I want to share a thought that broke down for me when doing this work. I would like to emphasize that it is important to value yourself and not others, and that we as people also develop and grow by having opinions and criticism around us and that this is also part of who we are.
