Un viaje surreal
In this installment I wanted to recreate two of my favorite works, “The Starry Night” created by Vincent Van Gogh in 1889 and the film “Midnight in Paris” written and directed by Woody Allen in 2011.
I wanted to represent the contrast of the new France, specifically Paris, with the old, as happened to Gil Pender (protagonist) in those time trips he took, where he was transported to a Paris in the 1950s.
Due to the time travels that Gil makes and that whenever they occurred to him they were under a clock, it occurred to me to put several clocks rotating in random directions and for each click on the sketch a fragment of the Eiffel Tower under construction is shown along with the change of buildings.
In the film, a very important factor is also the music that I did not want to leave aside, so the further we go into time the music becomes a Jazz by Sidney Bechet titled “Si tu vois ma mère”.
I chose to illustrate France in this collage since Simo Mulet talks about how it was there that the first cubist collages emerged, which were the “construction of a new artistic language that questioned the very roots of representation.”
“Collage cannot be defined as a mere cut-and-paste technique, since its significance lies not in its technical eccentricity but in its relevance to two of the questions that have been raised in the 20th century: the nature of reality and the nature of painting itself. Collage has been the means through which the artist incorporates reality into painting without imitating it.” (Seitz, 1965:6)
Regarding this fragment, I would like to emphasize the last part, referring to the work of art that I take as the main factor, which is “The Starry Night” and how through the code I transform it into a collage by adding buildings, clocks, etc…; Without completely imitating the original painting but incorporating and redefining it.
In the film “Midnight in Paris” in those time trips that Gil makes, there is always a very strong contrast between current art and ancient art where he is always fascinated with the art and artists he knows from the past; This reminded me of Giorgio Agamben’s text where he questions the place of art in the present and the relationship that the contemporary artist faces with the past.

Biography
My name is Iara Psenne, I was born on March 10, 2001, I studied at Scholem Aleichem Primary School and in 2018 I graduated from Martin Buber Secondary School.
At the beginning of 2019 I had decided to study audiovisual arts at the UNA, before starting the college entrance course I started working as a replacement receptionist at the production company of the Argentine film director Armando Bo, as I was studying film this made me very excited. In the middle of that year I began to have a lot of demand for work and extra activities that I did, and I began to realize that this career was not what I liked, so I decided to end it and start from scratch somewhere else.
A classmate had told me that there was a career called “multimedia arts” and that it was also taught at UNA, I decided to investigate a little more and found that this career interested me quite a bit.
This year’s course was quite complicated with Covid and the isolation situation was clearly not what I expected; But every day I had to study or every day I had to program code for hours was and I am happy because I know that finally this is the career I want to follow.
